Gail Zeliger passed away on August 6, 2025 surrounded by her beloved family at her home in Cape Elizabeth, Maine just shy of her 81st birthday.
Gail was born to Jack and Rebecca Seecof in the Bronx, New York on September 19, 1944, the fifth of six children, including four older siblings (Marcia, Robert, Judy, and Stephanie) and one younger (Natalie). In 1961, Gail met her husband and lifelong partner in crime, Harold Zeliger at Orchard Beach, Bronx, NY while he was lifeguarding and she perhaps embellishing her age.
Hal and Gail married on September 8, 1963. Over the following 62 years they raised four children, David (Jennifer), Joseph (Christine), Michael (Sue Jin) and Laura (Jeremy) and relished in being grandparents to seven grandchildren (Jessica, Will, Jack, Caroline, Meren, Sadie and Nate) and countless grandpets.
Gail was a passionate and devoted sister, wife, mother, aunt, grandmother and friend. She loved her family fiercely and with unflinching loyalty. Gail had great empathy, a wry sense of humor, unbending resolve and endless capacity to support and advise those whom she loved. She was clever, well-read, and warm. Gail loved her gardens, was a soulful cook, trusted advisor, and strong advocate for many in need. Gail took great pride in her loving restoration of historic Hop Brook Farm in West Charlton, NY. She also helped many in her community resolve conflicts as a volunteer mediator.
Gail is survived by her husband, three siblings, four children, seven grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews, friends and their families. She will be dearly missed.
Gail passed with dignity and humor to her last moment following a protracted battle with ALS. She requested that those who are inclined make a donation to the ALS Association (www.als.org) in lieu of flowers or other gifts.
A memorial for Gail will be held on August 24th at 1:00 at the Inn by the Sea in Cape Elizabeth, ME (https://innbythesea.com/).
