Ruth Miller

Ruth T. Miller, 80, of Portland, ME, passed away unexpectedly after a brief illness on September 2, 2026 surrounded by her family. She was born in Lewiston, ME, the only daughter of Nathan and Ada Tapper. Ruth graduated from Lewiston High School in 1963. Ruth owned and ran WDCS radio station with her husband, Fred, for many years. Once her children were grown, Ruth had a second career and was the smiling face behind the Jewelry counter at Service Merchandise and later, GM Pollock and Sons. For the last 5 years Ruth spent her days and nights with her best friend and constant companion, her beloved cavapoo dog. Ruth was also a life long member of Temple Beth El, in Portland.

Ruth was predeceased by her parents and husband of 54 years, Fred. She is survived by her loving children, Sandi and Eddie Haas of VA, Heather and Deane Macbeth of Shapleigh, and Michael and Tanya Miller of TN. Grandchildren, Cheyenne Macbeth & partner Travis Dall also of Shapleigh, and Deane Macbeth & partner Samantha Way again of Shapleigh. Finally, the remaining members of the Green Street 4, brother, Burt Tapper and wife Joyce of MD, and cousins Stan and Joan Lourie of Scarborough & Phil and Pearl Lourie of FL, as well as many other cousins, friends, and extended family. Instead of cards or flowers the family would like to suggest donations to Alzheimer’s charities in her name.

There will be a graveside service at 11am on Sunday, September 6th at Temple Beth El Memorial Park (1 Johnson Road). Shiva will be held at 7pm on September 6th and 7th at 26 Mayer Road in Portland.
