Maxine E. (Shatz) Sneider, 88, of Casco, Maine, passed away peacefully on April 3, 2026. She was the wife of the late Gerald “Jerry” A. Sneider.
Born in Portland, Maine, on March 19, 1938, Maxine was the daughter of the late Bella (Geller) and Joseph Shatz. She is survived by her sisters Frances Jacobson, Cynthia Baker and her husband James. She is predeceased by sister Jeanette Urdang and her husband Howard and brother in-law Arthur Jacobson.
Maxine was raised in Portland and graduated from Deering High School, Class of 1956, where she proudly served as a majorette in the marching band. She also performed as a head majorette with the American Legion, Harold T. Andrew’s Post.
She began her working life as a secretary at Appliance Wholesalers and later worked in shoe sales at Rines Bros. Department Store, both in Portland.
Maxine married Jerry on December 27, 1959. She was a member of Shaarey Tphiloh Synagogue, as well as its Sisterhood and Hadassah.
In her younger years, Maxine loved dancing and traveling. She later dedicated herself to raising her three children, whom she cherished deeply.
She was the loving mother of Ruth Mazziotti and her partner, Paul Bujold; Ronald Sneider and his wife, Sheila; Marcha; and Jill Ball and her husband, Joseph III.
Maxine’s greatest joy was her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a devoted grandmother to Justin Ball; Jessica (Ball) Gushee and her husband, Grant; Andrew Sneider and his wife, Danielle; Lindsey (Sneider) Shea and her husband, Conor; Jordan (Ball) Vail and her husband, Matt; and Joshua Ball.
She was blessed with great-grandchildren: William Ball, Ava Gushee, Francesca Ball Landon Sneider, Amelia Gushee, Emma Sneider, Camden Gushee and Noah Sneider.
Maxine is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.
Burial will be private
