Sidney Herbert Geller, 89, of Waterville, Maine, passed away peacefully in his sleep on October 15, 2026.

Sid was born in Portland, Maine, on April 5th, 1937, to Mary (nee Blumenthal) and Harry Geller. A proud Mainer, he was born and raised in Portland and spent his adult life living in Waterville. Upon retirement, he enjoyed winters in Boca Raton, Florida, and summers at “the camp” on East Pond in Oakland, Maine

He graduated from Deering High School, attended Northeastern University, and earned his bachelor’s degree from Drake University. He later attended Boston University School of Law before earning his law degree from the University of Maine School of Law. True to his sense of humor, he always joked that he was never at the top of his class.

After passing the Maine Bar Exam, Sid moved to Waterville to pursue his career in law. He practiced law in Waterville for 63 years. Throughout his life, he remained deeply committed to giving back to his community. He was very philanthropic and particularly devoted to supporting his synagogue, Beth Israel in Waterville, and The Cedars in Portland.

Sidney was predeceased by his parents, his brother, Arnold, and many beloved aunts and uncles.

He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Elizabeth “Liz” Geller; his three sons, David, his wife Jenny of Waterville, Maine; Michael, his partner Clinton O’Dell of Rumford, Rhode Island; and Stephen Geller of Cape Cod, Massachusetts; and his three grandchildren, Chloe Geller and her partner David Barre of York, Maine; and Ian and Ava Geller both of Waterville, Maine. He also leaves behind his beloved sisters-in-law, Susan Goldberg and Barbara McPherson, along with many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Sid leaves behind a legacy of family, community, loyalty, and laughter. He will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

A funeral will be held at the Levey Chapel in Portland, Maine, on Sunday, October 18, at 12:00 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Beth Israel Synagogue, P.O. Box 1882, Waterville, ME 04903-1882, or The Cedars, 630 Ocean Ave, Portland, ME 04103
